Why this site exists
I built deed-poll.uk after my brother-in-law tried to change his name and found the whole thing more confusing and more expensive than it needed to be. Changing your name in the UK is a right. You can write a deed poll yourself for nothing, using wording that is in the public domain, and for plenty of people that is the sensible choice.
What this site sells is convenience. You fill in a form, check the document, pay £19.99, and download a correctly worded deed poll straight away. There are two optional paid extras: a set of notification letters, and a print-and-post service. That is the whole business. There is no subscription and no account to cancel later.
We are not a government department and we do not dress up as one. Some of the older, better known deed poll sites use official sounding names and crest-style logos that leave people believing they have dealt with a public body. We think that is misleading, so this site is deliberately plain about what it is.

The guides on this site are general information about how the name change process works, not advice about your situation.
How the guides are written
The guidance here is researched from primary sources: GOV.UK, HM Passport Office, the DVLA, HMRC, and the underlying legislation. We use software tools to help draft and check the writing, and a person reviews and edits every guide before it goes live and updates it as the rules change. Each guide shows the month it was last reviewed. If you find something out of date or wrong, email deedpoll@nanoswift.co.uk and we will fix it.
